New events at the Dan Heisman Learning Center "Club" https://www.chess.com/club/dan-heisman-learning-center : check out the DHLC on Chess.com; we are now sponsoring several daily 30/30 tournaments. Two events are scheduled for today (July 19, 2021) and three for tomorrow. Pass the word for those looking for slow online events.
Tomorrow (Friday July 31), I am giving a fundraising seminar for the benefit of the Chess.com BLM Club (https://www.chess.com/club/the-black-lives-matter-chess-club/join).
The topic is general chess improvement - it will mostly be by questions from the attendees. Anyone from anywhere is invited to attend. Attendees are also offered a 3 month Internet Chess Club membership (just give Dan your handle - if you don't have one, go to www.chessclub.com and sign up for a free one-month trial). If you want to play online slow chess & tournaments, check out the Tri-Bridges Chess Club https://chess.com/club/tri-bridges-chess-club…. Although originally started as a youth OTB club, it now holds weekly tournaments for players of all ages.
This posting is to announce my third "Free Lesson" contest. The contest marks the 1st anniversary of my initial Youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6Bh6StWvvs, which was posted on July 5, 2019 (it's been an eventful year!).
The contest is open to any subscriber to my youtube channel (www.youtube.com/c/danheismanchess). Entrants should email me listing their Top 3 favorites of my videos. Of those entrants received by the end of the day July 5, two random selections will be notified to win a free lesson each. Pass the word please. 😎 It's not enough to just identify your mistakes (quiescence errors, lack of visualization, Hope Chess, hand-waving, misapplying principles, lack of recognition of basic tactic patterns...). You want to identify causes & take strong steps that minimize similar mistakes in the future. Otherwise your playing strength is stuck.
My job as an instructor is to help you do those things. Sure, most of the work will be yours, but my job is to identify the areas of need and improvement and put you on the right track. To improve you need practice, study, and feedback. Without the dimension of feedback you get diminishing returns on your study and play. Just received a comment on my 100th video summarizing improvement: "This video deserves about 100x more views than it has. So much good stuff in here." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9JMXwm3zeE
My youtube channel, www.youtube.com/c/danheismanchess now has over 100 instructive chess videos. To celebrate this milestone, I held a drawing and two of my subscribers each won a one-hour free lesson.
Because of the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, I have reversed my lesson price increase and returned my charges to previous values. My base rate is returned to $85/hour and all my fees, including various discounts, are always on my website at https://www.danheisman.com/fees.html. Please be careful and good health to all.
